Dining room light. Worked fine yesterday. Put a smart bulb in it last night and it wouldn’t turn on. Bulb tested fine in another fixture. Put original crazy fluorescent bulb back in and that won’t turn on now. No breakers tripped. Switch (not a dimmer) feels normal. What is going on?
EDIT: I guess it was a little corrosion from not having the bulb changed in 6 or 7 years. I tried a third bulb, cranked it in a little harder and moved it around to clean the contacts and now it works with whatever bulb I put in. Smart bulb is working fine, although Google Home said that it couldn't help me with restaurant reservations when I asked it to adjust the brightness...

connections that had corroded were corroded to the old bulb. when it was removed those bad connections were broken, and even restoring the original bulb cant resolve.
or something else

Probably a bad contact inside the socket, try screwing it in harder (That’s what she said...?)

Just a crazy designer fluorescent that’s been in there for years.

Check to see if the socket contacts are degraded or corroded. Sometimes when you take out an old bulb the contact has worn out, that’s happened to me before. Also, if anyone who swaps bulbs in your house is a yanker, the wires in the socket may have pulled a bit. 10 year, 20 year bulbs not regularly used, it happens.

Did you steal that bulb from Salvador Dali?

It looks like a modern art sculpture of Raiden from Mortal Kombat.

It’s an odd one, I’ll grant you that, and that’s what attracted me to it. But now that I’m going to smart controls and LED bulbs I don’t know where to put it. At least I still have the original box as I don’t think that it would be easy to package otherwise.

Clearly what you need to do is hit the light fixture with a hammer.

So you’re saying Google Home isn’t too bright?

Certainly - right after I fix the TV...

You’re right - it’s pretty dim. Or deaf.
